I am super excited to announce that I have a new hammered dulcimer! Hand-built by Zachary Hamilton at Song of the Wood, my new instrument is a custom JRS Grande Concertmaster with Spruce top and figured Cherry endrails. Covering a range of 5 octaves, this instrument features a rich set of lower octave notes that really deepen the sound. I’m thrilled with the balanced tone, and am excited about leveraging the wider range available to me as a player.
It looks gorgeous and sounds gorgeous! The custom soundhole inlay design was inspired by our trip to Maui during peak humpback whale viewing season in 2020.
I look forward to playing out and recording with this new instrument.
